Daily Market Snapshot: Euro Rises, US Stocks Mixed, Yen Falls On French Elections – 2 July 2024

It was an interesting first trading day of the week yesterday as French election results led to some early gains for the Euro and a choppy session on Wall Street ultimately led to more gains for the major indices.

There was still no sign of Japanese authorities in Yen markets despite it falling to a fresh 38-year low against the greenback, but traders will remain on the alert in the coming sessions. Treasury yields pushed higher as investors started to price in some political instability with the upcoming US election and the dollar pulled back earlier losses.

Traders are preparing for another busy day ahead, with risk events scheduled throughout the trading sessions and the ECB Forum set to bring some heavyweights of the central bank world to the fore, with both the ECB President and Fed Chair due to speak today.
