Daily Market Snapshot: Mixed Day for US Markets – 16 July 2024

It was a bit of a mixed day for US markets yesterday as the twin impacts of a likely Trump presidency and a more dovish Jerome Powell hit investors. The major stock indices all pushed higher whilst currencies saw volatility in the range and treasuries closed around familiar levels.

Oil prices dipped slightly lower as demand concerns weighed on sentiment and Gold spiked to near record levels before ultimately closing just above Friday’s close.

Traders are expecting to see more volatility in the market today as geo-political factors continue to influence moves and the calendar is set up for another busy day in the US session.
